Pi Day equals nerd day March 14, 2009

Pi PieToday is pi day. Nerds across the globe celebrate. Why today? 03/14/1:59 – roughly equal to π truncated to seven decimal places. 

π is an irrational number (like most humans) which means it cannot be expressed as a fraction and the decimals never end. Many have tried to understand pi and express it in the most accuracy. 

Pi has been calculated into the billions and some people make it a sport to memorise the the most digits of pi. In 2006, Akira Haraguchi from Japan recited ten thousand digits without error in 16 hours. Now there’s a geek! If you are really bored today why not try? Here are the first million digits to get you started.
